3 Tips on How to Clean and Maintain Your Retractable Awnings

Last updated 3 months ago

Awnings are designed to greatly improve your outdoor area. With a little bit of care, your fabric awnings will continue to look like new for years to come. Use these simple tips to care for your retractable awnings:

  • Monthly Rinses

If you rinse your fabric awning with water once a month, you can greatly extend its life. Using clean water to rinse off the fabric will get rid of dirt, soil, and other particles that would otherwise sink deeper into the awning. Keeping up with your monthly rinses will keep your awnings in great condition. It also minimizes the need for more thorough cleanings.

  • Deep Cleanings

Every two to three years, it is a good idea to clean your awning more thoroughly. If you choose to leave it on its frame, first hose it down with water no warmer than 100 degrees. Using mild soap and water, let the soap soak into the fabric. Make sure to rinse the awning thoroughly to get rid of all of the excess soap. Let it air dry. If your awning is small enough, you might want to take it off the frame and wash it in the machine.

  • Tough Stains

The monthly rinses and biyearly cleanings should keep your awning looking great. If you notice residual stains, though, you can clean it with a combination one cup of bleach, ¼ cup of mild soap, and one gallon of water. Using a soft-bristle brush, apply the mixture and let it soak for twenty minutes. Rinse thoroughly and air dry when the stain is gone.
